Quality Management for the Security Industry

Incorporate key security processes into your quality management system

Meet key quality requirements and create processes that reflect operational recommendations for the Security Industry Authority’s (SIA) Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) with a tailored ISO 9001 quality management system.

WHAT IS ISO 9001 / BS 10800?

BS 10800:2020 is a code of practice for the provision of security services. Designed to provide operational recommendations for businesses working within the private security sector, it has now become a requirement for the SIA’s Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS).

To assist security companies working towards ACS approval, QMS now offers ISO 9001, which meets many of the quality requirements of the ACS criteria, with additional processes for BS 10800, combining the quality Standard with the security code of practice for a management system tailored to security businesses.

Here are the top benefits of creating an ISO 9001 quality management system with processes designed to create best practice when it comes to operating your security business.

Here are the top benefits of using the ISO 9001 / BS 10800 framework:

  1. Meet the latest SIA ACS guidelines to work to BS 10800

  2. Create processes that meet best practice when it comes to the management, staffing and operation of your security business

  3. Achieve around two-thirds of the ACS self-assessment workbook indicators by meeting the requirements of ISO 9001

  4. Clearly demonstrate that your processes are effective at delivering high levels of customer satisfaction and consistency

  5. Create a focus on quality throughout your organisation, from leadership to service delivery

  6. Make your company stand out by working towards ACS approval

BS 10800 has been put in place to bring the many British Standards for the security services sector, such as BS 7858 and BS 7499, in line with ISO 9001. This makes it easier for security businesses to integrate the various BS codes of practice into their management systems.

To meet the requirements of ISO 9001 with added processes for BS 10800, you will therefore need to cover:

    1. Management Responsibility – the areas within the QMS that your management team need to focus on, be involved with and be accountable for

    2. Resource Management – how resources such as people, infrastructure and facilities must be assigned to ensure the best possible performance

    3. Product Realisation – details on how your business will operate in order to provide a high quality service or product

    4. Measurement, Analysis and Improvement – how you can determine if your Management System is working as expected, facilitating the continual improvement of your system

    3 Steps to Certification

With the help of QMS, the certification process can take as little as 45 days to complete

      Gap Analysis

A QMS Consultant will visit your Organisation to review and document your current processes and procedures, highlighting any areas that do not meet the requirements of the Standard.

      3 Step Certification

Now its time to make sure any required process or procedural changes are made, as highlighted in the Review. QMS can provide templates to assist you in doing this.

      3 Step Certification

An Auditor must now visit your Organisation to check that the documented processed are being followed and that the necessary changes have been made. Once they are satisfied, you will be rewarded with your certification.

      3 Step Certification

Once you have achieved certification the certification cycle will commence. This is made up of surveillance and re-certification audits, one of which must take place each year, around the anniversary of your certification. These visits confirm your continued compliance with the Standard and verify the validity of your certification.
