ISO 17100

Translation Service Provider

Demonstrate the consistency of your translation services.

Translation Service Providers gain a competitive edge with the new ISO 17100:2015 certification.

The ISO 17100:2015 Standard for Translation Service Providers (TSPs) can help you improve all aspects of your language service business.

What is ISO 17100?

ISO 17001 is an International Standard that provides the framework for a translation management system. It specifies the steps you need to take to deliver a consistently high quality translation service. This includes how to establish core processes, train translators, manage people and use technology effectively.

Through ISO 17100, TSPs can demonstrate that they conform to an internationally-recognised standard that was created by experts who referenced relevant industry codes, best-practice guides, and legislation.

The Requirements of ISO 17100

The ISO 17100 standard uses a structure of 6 clauses which, roughly grouped together, cover four key areas:

  1. Resources - how resources such as people, infrastructure and facilities must be assigned to ensure the best possible performance
  2. Pre-production - the processes your translation company must follow to prepare for the provision of translation, such as setting a contract with your client, quoting for your services and agreeing how the project will be delivered
  3. Production - the processes that describe how your team will translate work, including proofreading, revision and verification processes that help to ensure a quality result
  4. Post-production - this deals with feedback and any administration required at the end of a project. These clauses helps you to measure whether you have met your requirements and those of your clients
